Day 5 at Swansea Metropolitan University started off poorly! As I woke at up 6.30am realising that I forgotten to print out any of the briefs that I’d prepared for my 3rd year group. A bit of frantic printing on my trusty Cannon Pixma MP610 and all was well, if a little late for the train to Swansea.
So I briefed in two projects on day 5. A social awareness campaign for my 1st year group, where they have to present an advertising campaign for Greenpeace, focusing on a campaign that interests them most, taking the form of any media that suits their idea, i.e. ambient media, newsprint, tv, viral, social networking. With individual presentations taking place on Tuesday 9 November.
My 3rd years had a more topical quickfire brief that had to be completed during the 2 hour session;
Produce advertising campaign for one of the following;
- Warning consumers about the danger of sub-standard fireworks bought from un-licensed retailers.
- Warning retailers of the dangers, implications, offences of selling sub-standard fireworks
for the following target audiences
• Purchasers of fireworks aged 18+.
• Small independent retailers.
With only 2 hours available for these quickfire briefs, my students have produced a few seedling ideas that could really benefit from being worked up into final solutions. So on the next brief we’re going to spend some more time working them up, from concept sketches to fully realised artwork over a couple of weeks. Hopefully, I’ll get to post up some of them here.
